My name is Aaron and I am a senior at Danville High School. During my first semester as a senior I got the special opportunity of doing an internship with a local plumbing/heating expert. Tracy Carslon was nice enough to let me join him in the mornings on a job site he was working at. I did do a few boiler cleanings and some duct work with him but I spent most of my time at one location. As many locals know, Danville gained a much larger operation of the brewing business recently. The Red Barn Brewery has expanded immensely and is now across from Goodfellas. This was a pretty big job for just one plumber to handle so it took about a full two months for him to complete his part. I spent a lot of time with him there and got to learn a lot about the plumbing world. Tracy’s job/task was to put together all of the pipes and fittings that connected all of the fermenters and tanks. The job was a little bit different than a normal everyday job of a plumber but it consisted of some of the same parts. We soldered together lots of copper pipe. We hung lots of ceiling brackets to hold some piping and we threaded and put together lots of steel tubing. These are all things that were a little different but definitely could be done in a home, whether it be in a basement or attic. I also got to learn about the business part of the job, which included in estimating, billing, and working with other contractors in tight spaces.
Tracy was very nice in letting me help out and teaching me everything he knows in the short amount of time we had. I appreciate the experience and couldn’t thank Tracy, Lisa, Ms. Keach, and the Danville school enough for making it happen.
