My project started with the focus on music management and turned into something more. Originally I wanted to do a study on music management and business; I wanted to study and explore this because it was the career I wanted to enter after high school.
At the beginning I started by doing a lot of different research. From watching interviews with different people in the business I found one main point being emphasized; focus on catering your talent. This was a very valid point. If I wanted to know how to better manage an artist or label, I would have to know what it was like to be in the artist shoes. When the time for creating my first product came around, I decided I would put myself in the artist's shoes. The shoes were heavy to say the least. I decided my product would be mixing videography and music, essentially creating a music video. For the music video I put together different short clips that I had taken in the last few weeks and put them all together using the app Clips and WeVideo. Using the different programs was a bit hard and definitely came with different struggles. Eventually I edited in the music, by far the hardest part of creating the product. I used the song Purity by A$AP Rocky feat. Frank Ocean. I chose this song because not only are A$AP and Ocean two of my favorite artists, but because the sound of the song fit the vibe of the video. Since the song focuses on the artist reflecting on finding peace of mind and making time for family and friends, I thought it would go perfectly with the simplicity of the clips of my friends enjoying life. After the song was edited in, and the main clips were added, I started to add “b roll”. B roll are clips that might not be the main focus of the product, but rather act as fillers to help fluidity. Once the visuals were completely finished and the music was synced in with the images, I started adding different filters and effects to brighten up and add a more professional video. After talking with my advisors, we decided to add another element to the video; poetry. One of my favorite poet of modern times is Rupi Kaur. A lot of her work focuses on relationships, trauma, growth, and recovery. I chose to use an untitled poem by her about blooming. I chose this poem because like Purity, I think the poem expresses how through friends, family and experiences we grow, or rather bloom. We stay strong and push the people around us to enjoy our lives while also growing and being successful. The poem is about ten lines long, which worked in my favor being that it was so easy to split up. To insert the text into the video I used WeVideo using yellow movie captions. I thought this created a cool element to the video and used the yellow captions because it reminded me of an alternative aesthetic popular on Tumblr. Doing this product, I found out a lot about being a creator. It took a lot of work and creativity to make the video and the challenges that held me back were stressing. Although, I am glad that a created this product. It let me peek into an aspect of being an artist and made me sympathize more with the artists I would potentially be working with. Moving forward with this knowledge has helped me better myself for becoming a manager and working on the business side of art.

For my study, I am getting an English credit, I’m getting this because I am meeting most of the standards with my website and my interviews. I also have a few Danville Skills, but the big one that I am going to earn is Share. The “Share” standard means “I can use technology as a tool to aid my communication”. I am doing that right now with my website because everything that I learn is going into my website, and eventually my website will be published. Another Danville Skill I will earn is Question. Question means“I reflect on who I am in my past present and future.” I will earn this skill through my project because I talk about my past a lot and how I have been around racing, I talk about what I am doing now, and I also talk about the future and what I plan on doing. I will also show that I have earned Inquire as a Danville Skill. Inquire means“ I can come up with questions and predictions to better understand problems. “ I will earn this through this project because with my interviews I had to come up with important questions that would help me figure out everything I need to know to own my own track.
Owning a race track has been my dream since I was a little girl, so this project has really helped me. When I first started this project I thought that owning a race track was easy and not very much went into it, but I was very very wrong. Owning a race track is difficult and a big responsibility and this project has really helped me see that. I have always wanted to explore, travel, and help people at the same time, I also love taking pictures so I thought about this career. I did a lot of research about the science behind it and college requirements. I really liked the idea of this job. I interviewed Fawn Baesemann the school nurse, about school and her career and her take on nursing school. I did some presentations about nurses, like Florence Nightingale. Any kind of nursing requires a certain kind of person and I idolize these women.
As I did more research I realized this wasn't the career I really wanted to pursue. It does have everything I like to do, but I realized this wasn't for me and I didn't understand it like I thought I would. However, I would still love to take part in a career that has traveling. I have done research about it and read the book Eat, Pray Love. Something I do find interesting is hemp farming. My family has a farm in Pennsylvania and has asked me to work for them. I have thought about this more and more and am really considering it, I would be traveling from state to state still but I don't think it is as much traveling I wish it'd be. I have been working with first graders in the outdoors. I have been teaching them about sugaring and tracking and how to identify tree bark without leaving on the trees.
