Hello! My name is Alyssa and for my compass project, I have been working on cooking with kids. I decided to do this as my project because I love getting to cook and bake things but I also love working with kids as well. So I decided to combine them together and learn about them all in one as a big topic. I am planning on having this go for a global citizenship credit since I need more credits in that area. So throughout the products I have been learning about how different it is for kids in all different age groups all over the place. I have learned about the different age groups abilities and challenges as well as ways to keep them engaged in the projects and stay calm.

My name is Kolby Blair, and I’m a senior at Danville High School. I’m currently enrolled in a course called Compass, a course where you can have an independent study on any topic and credit of your choice throughout the semester. The topic I decided to research this semester was traditional foods around the world. I thought my choice in topic was kind of weird because growing up and to this day I wanna go into the medical field as a LPN or RN. I decided to research this as my topic because I wanted to further my cooking ability, and I figured learning about different traditional foods from around the world would be interesting.
My project is about Legos. I did my project on Legos, because Legos are fun and cool and interesting. I have always liked Legos and taking the time to build a Lego set. I also did my project about Legos because I wanted to learn more about them, Like their history and their cost. I have done three products. All three of them have been about Legos. I have learned a lot about Legos and though sometimes doing the projects was sometimes hard it has been really fun and interesting to learn new things about Legos. I have learned new things like the person who started Legos and there company’s history, for an example there Company has burned down three different times. I don’t know what my next project will be about but I would really like to do something about Legos again, I feel like there are still more things to learn about Legos and I am excited. I have learned a lot about Legos. I have learned why they can be so expensive. They are expensive because of the amount of pieces a set has, Legos are also expensive because they invest a lot of there money into there company. I’ve also learned more about who built the company and came up with the idea. I have learned about rare and retired Legos, for an example a rare Lego set would be Ole Kirk’s house at a crazy price of $9,000. Ole kirk was Legos founding father. I learned when the Legos were retired and what the Lego sets were. Learning about legos has been very fun. It's also been very educational. I feel like I have learned a lot about legos and history at the same time. I love to bake, and I don't really like history. So I decided to do the history of sugar and sweeteners.I researched the different types of sugars and what their benefits and cons were. I also looked at slavery and how sugar was a huge contribute to that. So far I have baked some splenda cookies and cake and found out that I actually love. Then I made something totally different and cooked some spaghetti with a cheese sauce. I ran into a lot of challenges. I am not super used to the kitchen here. Everything is all over the place and it can be hard to remember where things are. I also needed to make sure I was keeping with the history credit. And trying to make sure baking fits with history credit can be pretty challenging. Sometimes the things I baked would come out bad. But I just tried again and made it better. I have gotten really good at baking and learned some new interesting facts about history in baking that I hadn't known. In the end I am going to teach a cooking class to show all of my skills I hae learned from my baking. My name is Lynsey Lavely, and I have been working on baseball related projects throughout the semester. I have been watching and following baseball my whole life, and have always been interested in almost everything about it. I worked independently, which was helpful because I kept myself focused and set my own goals. I worked towards an English credit, by researching and organizing my information into paragraph form. I chose this topic because it was something I was genuinely interested in, and I learned a lot of useful information.
