My name is Sarah Gray. I am a senior at Danville school. During my second semester, I took a Compass course, which is an independent learning class based around Danville Skills. For my Compass class, I choose to use the skill Discover while researching Hawaiian anthropology/cultural anthropology. The skill Discover is about looking at what you want to do after high school using the things you are doing or are interested in.
I am researching the history of Hawaii, the ethnic make of Hawaii, how all the ethnicities come together to make Hawaiian culture, and the bad side of Hawaiian paradise. This class for me is somewhat connected to my senior project which is about Hawaiian cuisine and the history behind the dishes. I do a lot of research using books, documentaries, and the Internet. In doing research for this class I have furthered my interested in anthropology and have reinforced my decision for studying anthropology. Miss.Keach and Miss. Parent have helped me every step of the way through this class. They both have given me great ideas and the support that I need to finish this year strong and this class. I would also like to thank Mr. Decaro and Mr. Warren for taking the time to talk to me about Hawaiian history.
