My name is Sloane and for my compass project, I decided to team up with Kinsey to bake. We decided to work for science credits because we were both in need of them. Each product involves finding recipes, making an ingredient list, price estimating, making inquiries and predictions, getting ingredients, baking, and writing reflections. I decided to pursue this project because I need science credits, and I wanted to do something fun to earn them. So far, I have made chocolate covered strawberries, cheesecakes, cake, and homemade whipped cream. In order to connect this to science, I compare how little changes can affect results while baking. I have compared the difference in temperature affects between two different kinds of chocolate, the difference in consistency when using a baked cheesecake recipe rather than a no-bake recipe, the difference in frosting ability when freezing a cake instead of refrigerating it after baking, and the difference in taste and texture between homemade and store bought whipped cream. In the future, I plan to either make cake pops or to summarize my project and what I’ve learned in a cookbook.
