The world of entrepeneurialship is a vast one that can often include risk and reward, a good amount of stress, and the freedom to create a business that can be exciting and functional for the targeted demographic. I discovered a love for starting and running businesses as early as fourth grade when I started a business selling bracelets, keychains, dog collars, and more. This experience taught me simple things such as how to sell a product and how to grow a business through risk taking investments and planning expansions to maximize cost effectiveness and sales. As this business dwindled with age, I discovered I had a knack for starting and growing businesses but at the root of that love I knew I was good at selling a product or service.
This year I have taken an initiative to explore the world of car sales and learn the differences and similarities between selling a $10 bracelet and a $40,000 vehicle. After having a work study at Twin State Ford in St. Johnsbury, VT for almost four months I’ve learned there is definitely some obvious differences between the bracelet and car sales such as quality over quantity, persistence, and I also never had to sell anyone a bracelet based off of their credit score. But with these differences was a large amount of similarities too. Being genuine, persistent but kind, and showing a work ethic are the most important parts of both kinds of sales which surprised me as it showed how relatable the two, very different, kinds of sales were. Throughout my experiences at the dealership I’ve learned a lot of good lessons about starting and running businesses in a way that can make customers feel at home and comfortable. These lessons and experiences can be used later on in my journey to becoming and entrepreneur to create a comfortable environment for customers and implement a way to sell a product or service in the most genuine and comforting way possible.
