I have been doing my project on photography/videography this semester in compass. This includes all of the other details that go with it, like finding a good camera. I just recently put together a presentation on finding the best photography camera for myself.
I chose this topic because my senior project is to create the start of a photography/videography business, that I will be able to further pursue into a career. This is why doing my project to find an ideal camera was beneficial to me. For my mini product, I started with videography. The only camera I had to film was my iPhone, but since it was the mini product, I was using this as a time to experiment and practice. I am earning a science credit for this class, so I put together a 3 minute video/walk through of our school's nature trail. I experimented with focus, angles, perspective, speed, and editing. I also have a mentor for all of this, Michael Beniash, a sports editor for the Caledonian Record. We met up at school within the first two weeks, and he taught me a lot of things about his style, what he does, his cameras, and lots of details on ISO, shutter speed, and aperture. I took notes on all of this and used them when I went to get content for my product 1. For my product 1, I went to an elementary soccer jamboree with him to take pictures. He let me use his cameras, and I stayed for about 2 games. I took lots of good pictures, learned a lot about how to use/set my settings, and we then met up during the week to do a little bit of editing, and I put my best pictures into a slideshow with descriptions. Our next product assignment is to look at an alternative perspective. For this, I think I am going to look into film photography, dark rooms, and trying these things out. I am very happy with my topic, and am learning a lot. All of this will bring me closer to a more successful business, and I’m having fun while doing it. For a while I took a break from taking pictures with my camera at home because I was getting frustrated not knowing how to properly use it. But after learning all of this, I have rediscovered how much I love photography and videography, and I am so excited to turn this into my career someday.
